After participating in this work placement program, we have learnt more about the operation of the Housekeeping Department in a hotel. We could be able to experience the big differences between the contents stated in the textbook with that in the reality of a hotel. The tasks were not as simple as expected and we have learnt more about the importance of inter-personal skills and team work. We have gained deeper understanding about the industry as well.

The activity was quite good and interesting. There were many new machines and other things that had not seen before. The staffs were also very nice and humorous, and enjoyed talking and learning from them. The tasks were also very challenging. The first day was folding clothes. The second day was to buckle up the buttons. The third day was ironing clothes. These experiences were very precious and unforgettable. On the second last day, there were even free drinks, which felt very shocked. Would like to join again if possible. .

This work experience programme gave a better insight of the daily operation of a hotel. I would describe it as teamwork. Good communication and coordination among different departments are vital for the smooth operation of the hotel. For instance, the staff of the Housekeeping Department have to clean the rooms punctually and efficiently so that the visitors can check in the rooms at the scheduled time. Also, through the 3-days working experiences in the Housekeeping Department, realized that it was really tougher than what I expected. Though it seems to be an easy task to clean the room, a lot of effort, hard work and patience are necessary.
