Marine Department

Marine Department (MD) is the administrator of the port. Its principal functions are to ensure safe operation of the port and all Hong Kong waters as well as to operate the Hong Kong Shipping Register and safeguard the quality of the Hong Kong registered ships. The maritime industry in Hong Kong provides various job opportunities. Aspiring talents are welcome to join and become maritime professionals. The professional grades in MD include Marine Officer, Surveyor of Ships and Shipping Safety Officer.

By participating in the “Business-School Partnership Programme”, MD arranges visits for students to learn more about the work of the department, the entry requirements of various posts and the respective job duties, as well as the prospect of the maritime industry, so as to encourage them to join the industry.
